About Emerald City Kickball
Emerald City Kickball began in 2020 as a project between friends to find a safe and affirming way to
create an inclusive community during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a recreational sport available to players
regardless of skill or experience level, kickball quickly became a vibrant piece of Australia's LGBTQIA+ community.
We're a sporting community, not just another sports league - connecting and empowering LGBTQIA+ people
through accessible, fun team sports across Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne.
Kickball is similar to baseball or softball, except instead of using a bat, the pitcher rolls a large,
rubber playground ball to the kicker, who kicks it and runs the bases. Teams score runs by reaching
home plate, and the fielding team records outs. It's designed for fun with zero athletic ability required!

I've never played team sports. Can I join?
Absolutely! Most of our players had never played team sports before. The ball is big and bouncy -
impossible to miss! We celebrate effort over excellence. Come to a GAG Day to try it risk-free!
Can I join with a friend?
Yes! New members can nominate a friend during registration to be paired with - we'll do our best
to place you on the same team. Just make sure you both register and nominate each other!
Is this really LGBTQIA+ inclusive?
100% yes! We're a community first, sporting group second. Zero tolerance for discrimination.
We actively create safe, affirming spaces for all LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies.
Many players found their chosen family through kickball. You belong here! π³οΈβπ
Do you offer financial assistance?
Yes - we never want cost to be a barrier to participation. Financial hardship support is available.
Contact us during registration for more information. GAG Days are completely free!
What is GAG Day?
Give it A Go (GAG) Day is a free open event to introduce people who are new to the sport, curious about
kickball, or want a refresher on the rules. It's not a tryout and has no bearing on registration -
it's simply a chance to experience the fun before committing. Open to anyone!
Is fancy dress required?
Not at all! Theme weeks are completely optional. The only requirements are kindness, respect, and
having fun. We see a baseball cap or a tutu as equal participation - do whatever feels comfortable for you.
How old do I need to be?
All participants must be 18 or older to register and play.
