Perth Leadership & Governance

Meet our Executive Committee

Our leadership consists entirely of volunteers responsible for the management & operations of the league

Phil

(he/him)

National Area Representative, Perth

Phil acts as the key link between the National Management Committee and the Perth Local Sub-Committee. In this role, he supports the delivery of national initiatives at a local level, tracks outcomes and lessons learned from events, and provides feedback to help shape future planning. He also advocates for the resources and support needed to ensure local activities are sustainable, inclusive, and successful.

Phil is one of the original founders of the Perth league and has been an active member since its inception nearly five years ago. Prior to stepping into the National Area Representative role, he served as Director of Finance and Memberships, where he played a key role in strengthening governance, financial sustainability, and member engagement as the league continued to grow.

Outside of kickball, Phil brings over 20 years of experience in the finance and insurance industry, including more than a decade in leadership roles. His professional background has shaped a strong focus on structure, accountability, and people-centred decision-making, all of which he brings into his work within the community.

Phil enjoys gaming, visiting museums, studying history, catching up with friends, spending as much time as possible at the beach, and travelling — always curious, always learning, and always looking for ways to connect with people and the world around him.

Cherrie

(she/her)

Director of League Operations

Cherie brings a dynamic blend of strategic insight, community spirit and extensive operational experience to the league. She organises fixtures, field bookings, setup, referees and play, as well as being a player plus umpire since season four.

With over fifteen years of leadership experience, she’s perfected the art of herding cats and solving problems: fostering collaboration, empowering teams, championing equality and inclusion and ensuring everyone enjoys an unforgettable experience at work and in life.

She also serves as a director and lead coach for two nonprofit organisations devoted to mentoring women pursuing careers in winemaking, brewing, and distilling.

Beyond kickball, Cherie is an avid traveler and adventure-seeker who enjoys staying active through a range of sports.

She believes life (and kickball) is better with a dash of silliness, plenty of laughter, and moments that bring people — and pups — together.

Curtis

(he/him)

Director of Membership & Finance

Catherine

(she/her)

Director of Stakeholder Management and Engagement

Scott

(he/him)

Director of Marketing and Communications

Scott is the voice, vibe, and visual polish behind Emerald City Kickball Perth. As the go-to person for marketing and communications, he looks after everything from hyping the local league and sharing its biggest moments to managing media interest and keeping the brand looking sharp and consistent everywhere it shows up. He wrangles internal updates, external promos, press inquiries, and all the design bits and pieces — making sure Emerald City Kickball Perth always feels welcoming, fun, and unmistakably on brand while shining a spotlight on what makes the community special.

Scott has been part of ECKB Perth since Season 4 and stepped into the role of go-to Comms guy in Season 6. While he’ll be the first to admit he’s not the strongest player on the field, he loves that kickball is about way more than just kicking a ball — it’s the socials, the vibes, and the community spirit that keep him coming back.

By day, Scott is a full-time freelance graphic designer who’s been working from home for over 10 years (long before it was cool). Designing for ECKB Perth gives him a creative playground to experiment, collaborate with a very different kind of client, and put his skills to work where they make a real impact.

When he’s not at kickball, Scott quite literally invented the modern idea of being a plant-dad and is the internationally published author of the coffee-table book Boys with Plants. More recently, he became a dog-dad — a life-changing event by all accounts — and Jasper the Spoodle is set to become a familiar (and very popular) face at kickball on Sunday afternoons.

Imogen

(she/they)

Local Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Lead

Imogen supports the organisation by embedding inclusive, equitable and accessible practices across programs, engagement and community spaces, ensuring diversity and inclusion remain central to everything we do.

Imogen works closely with community members to understand diverse lived experiences and translate these insights into meaningful, people centred outcomes. She is passionate about creating environments that foster belonging and psychological safety, where individuals feel empowered to show up as their authentic selves. Her strength lies in thoughtful consultation, relationship building and supporting inclusive practices that align with Kickball’s values.

By day, Imogen works across project coordination and stakeholder engagement and is the Co‑Chair of Powering Pride within her organisation, where she contributes to advancing inclusion and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ employees. She is also currently studying her Certificate IV in Human Resources, further strengthening her practical and professional approach to people focused work and inclusive organisational practices.

She joined Emerald City Kickball to be part of a vibrant, values driven, inclusive community that actively prioritises connection and belonging. For queer people, access to inclusive and affirming spaces is vital and Imogen is proud to contribute to a community where diversity is celebrated and people are supported to build meaningful connections both on and off the field.

Toro

(he/him)

Local Events Lead

Toro oversees event coordination for Emerald City Kickball Perth, addressing challenges with innovation and composure to ensure smooth, inclusive experiences for both players and supporters. He offers strategic counsel to colleagues, peers, and community stakeholders, strengthening relationships within LGBTQIA+ groups and promoting a sense of belonging.

With a diversity of experience in community engagement across not-for-profit organisations, Toro contributes substantial practical and interpersonal expertise. His professional background includes technical AED advisement, large-scale vendor management, sponsorship development, and volunteer oversight, demonstrating his capability in navigating complex operational environments and commitment to delivering meaningful results.

Since joining ECKB Perth in 2025, Toro has actively contributed to the organisation through roles such as Social Captain and Team Captain. His dedication has been acknowledged by awards including Baby Emerald (Season 7) and Glinda (Season 8).

Toro exemplifies the spirit of kickball, bringing energy, strong community principles, and a passion for fostering partnerships between ECKB and other local organisations.

Ash

(he/him)

Local Sponsorship and Grants Lead

Ash is responsible for identifying and managing grant and sponsorship opportunities to support local activities and continued growth. He coordinates submissions, timelines and contributions across committee streams, working closely with Membership and Finance, Communications, and Strategic Partnerships.

Ash is a small business owner with extensive experience in corporate governance, business writing and philanthropy. With his passionate and enthusiastic nature, he actively champions Emerald City Kickball Perth’s values.

A proud father of two, Poppy and Charlie, who are regular cheerleaders on game days, Ash spends his spare time hiking, enjoying Pilates or cutting up the dance floor we he gets the chance.

Liz

(any pronouns accepted)

Local Program Management Lead

Liz is the person behind the notes, tracking, and administrative systems that keep Emerald City Kickball Perth running smoothly. As Program Management Lead, they manage documentation and data so nothing falls through the cracks, allowing the committee to focus on creating a safe, inclusive, and genuinely fun kickball experience for the Perth community.

After playing with ECKB for five seasons, they stepped into this role when other commitments meant they could not play, wanting to stay involved in a community they had grown deeply connected to. Alongside completing a PhD, Liz works full-time, studies at TAFE, takes Korean language classes, tutors, and regularly supports teaching labs. Experience across leadership, management, education, and science has made strong organisation and time management second nature, shaping a practical and steady approach to their work and allowing them to support the committee effectively throughout the season.

At the core of their approach is putting in the effort upfront so things run more smoothly and with less stress later. They care deeply about community and are always willing to contribute in ways that make participation easier, fairer, and more sustainable for everyone involved.

What began as a search for a fun social sporting group quickly became close friendships and a strong sense of belonging. As a queer person, they value queer community spaces and believe that safe and respectful environments are built through care, intention, and shared responsibility. What they enjoy most about ECKB Perth is the balance between competition and fun, and the connections that extend well beyond the season.

Outside of kickball, Liz stays busy with work and study, goes to the gym, plays other queer community sports such as tennis and badminton, and enjoys downtime with their partner and their dogs.
